The course includes an overview of electrical and laser safety in laboratories. The dangers of electricity. Standards and basic concepts. Devices with a risk of electric shock. Power centers. Fuses and circuit breakers. Extension cords. Protection classes. First aid for electrical accidents. Allowed electrical work. Fire safety. Radiation and the eye. Safety classifications of lasers. Examples of lasers. Safe use of glass devices. Legislation and supervision related to laser devices.

After completing the course, the student will be able to:

  • identify electricity and laser safety risks related to the working in laboratory,
  • choose appropriate personal protective equipment and use laboratory safety equipment,

  • know how to act in the case of an accident.
